Musical Notes for String Quartet,Tee Time, Opus 5 No.6

The string quartet  Tee Time by Simon Paul Austin, Opus 5 No.6, is intended to leave players and listeners alike with a smile or laughter.  The entire piece is pizzicato for all instruments and the Stena String Quartet have performed it with the violins and viola playing their instruments in guitar position at the expense of being entirely in tune.

Musical Notes for Assen Andante solo piano Opus 7 No.3

The Assen Andante by Simon Paul Austin contains some of the most interesting harmonies in The Callum Collection. Enjoy the F# in bar 34. There is deliberate avoidance of a perfect cadence in the tonic key much of the time. While it also uses the full range of the keyboard, it is easier to play than it looks at first sight. The ending should be played with great sensitivity.

More string quartets added

More string quartets from The Stena Suite (Opus 5) have been added for individual purchase.  Note however that all eleven are also available at a more advantageous price.  Each quartet is 3 to 4 minutes in length and ideal for combining in contrasting ways to suit the needs of enthusiastic amateur string quartets.

Refined Oil string quartet; play violin 1 at home alone with the other three parts (lock down version) uploaded

The string quartet, Refined oil has been uploaded in a lock down version to play the violin 1 part along with the audio file at home. The sheet music is the violin 1 part.  The audio file is a recording of the whole quartet but of just the remaining three parts.  It is therefore possible to play a string quartet home alone while in lockdown.  A 'count in' at the beginning means you can start playing at the right time.

Several more standard versions of string quartets from The Stena Suite (Opus 5) have been uploaded.  The sheet music files contain the score and all the parts.  It is possible to get these quartets individually or alternatively, all eleven quartets that make up The Stena Suite (Op.5 Nos.1-11) which has also been uploaded as a collection book.
